I have been an employee at YSU since 1999 and currently work in Human Resources as an HR Analyst. I would appreciate your consideration to serve our union as a member on its Executive Board. Our union has been through various transitions that unfortunately seem to have taken a toll on the unity of our membership. I would welcome the opportunity to be a part of moving our union forward towards establishing and maintaining trust and respect amongst our members.  These ideals must be intact so that we, as members of ACE, are able to show we are a cohesive and respected group within the campus community! Now in my 13th year at YoungstownStateUniversity, I am currently Executive Secretary to the Dean of the College of Fine and Performing Arts. Previously, I spent 11 years as an Administrative Assistant in Athletics.

I love being part of the YSU family and have met and worked with the most wonderful people.  We all share the same desire: To provide positive contributions to facilitate our university’s growth as we maneuver through emerging new challenges, while protecting the integrity of our union. I would be honored to represent you and our union in negotiations, and would do so with strength, kindness, and integrity.

I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology (2005), and a Master’s Degree in Computing and Information Systems (2008) from YoungstownStateUniversity.

My husband, Bill, and I reside in LibertyTownship, and we have three children who are all graduates of YSU.

I began my employment at YSU as a part-time intermittent Secretary in March, 2005. I currently hold a full-time position as Secretary in the Information Technology Services/Computer Center since October, 2007.

I am a graduate of YSU with an AAB degree. I have completed four terms beginning in 2009 as YSU OEA/NEOEA Delegate and in 2011 as an Alternate Delegate. I would like to continue serving in this capacity to work on achieving mutual goals of the ACE Union membership. Since my first nomination in 2009 as OEA Delegate, I was elected as OEA/NEOEA Representative and traveled to Columbus to participate at the fall assembly in November, 2012 and the spring election at the OEA Representative Assembly in May, 2013.

CONNIE FRISBY I have been at the University since December 2004, approximately 8-1/2 years.  In my time here I have served as a member of the Executive Committee, an alternate NEOEA representative, and a grievance officer.  I paid for, and attended NEOEA negotiations training.  I try to be pleasant to everyone I meet but am not afraid to speak my mind.  I do not have a personal agenda and feel what’s right is right, and what’s wrong is wrong. I will endeavor to accomplish what I can for the benefit of the Unit as a whole.  I am not afraid of hard work and believe my knowledge, work ethic, and perseverance will enable me to be successful as your ACE president.  I would consider it an honor to continue the process of building a strong and united Unit. I am an Administrative Assistant for the Department of Human Performance and Exercise Science located in BeeghlyCenter.   I have been with Youngstown State University twenty some years.  In that time I have advanced through the positions of Student Groundskeeper, Groundskeeper 1, Groundskeeper 2, Sales Manager, and Facility Manger to where I am now.  During this time I have served as 1st Vice President of ACE and on the Health Care Advisory Committee, Request for Proposal subcommittee for Benefits Consultant, Constitution and Bylaws Committee, NEOEA/OEA representative, Labor Management Council, Grievance Committee, Elections Committee, multiple terms on the YSU-ACE Executive Board and hiring committees. I have also served as a representative on the Higher Ed Task Force, OEA UNI-Serve council, editor of the YSU-ACE newsletter and YSUACE website, and as a coordinator and building representative for the school supply drive. I have in past years attended OEA negotiations training and SB5 petition training.

Even when not holding an office, I take constant interest in our union by attending meetings and disseminating as accurate information as possible to my fellow Union members.  Like some of you I am passionately opinionated about the issues that we face as a union and believe we must decide to unify and be involved to sustain our union. Please take time to participate with your ACE union.

Administrative Assistant 2

STEM College – Dean’s Office

I have been Dean Abraham’s Administrative Assistant since June 2008.  Before that, I was in the Metro Credit Department as an Intermittent Secretary from February to June 2008.  I feel very fortunate to have a job that I sincerely like, with benefits like our tuition remission.  Most of my previous jobs did not include union representation.  I do see the necessity of a strong union and hope to make it a better one by my participation in the Executive Board meetings.

I would like to take this opportunity to put forth my candidacy for two positions within the YSU-ACE community. I am seeking your votes for a position on the Negotiations Committee and the chance to be a representative to the OEA and the NEOEA. I began my employment with YSU in August of last year; I currently work in the Office of Human Resources, where I function as an HR Analyst. I grew up in Pittsburgh and relocated to the Youngstown area last summer when I had the opportunity to commence working at YSU. My educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts in French Language and Literature and Hispanic Language and Literature and a Master of Business Administration, both earned from the University of Pittsburgh. I am very eager to get involved within the YSU-ACE community and would strive to provide all members with quality representation, in whatever capacity the membership community sees fit. I thank you very much for your time, consideration and (hopefully) votes! Click here for all results
MELODIE PROVENCHER Administrative Assistant 2, Office of Student Life; Adjunct faculty, Department of English. Prior to YSU, I worked as a legal secretary for a Canfield law firm. Education — B.A. in English Literature, minor in Anthropology (Northern Illinois University, 1979); Master of English (YoungstownStateUniversity, 2008). I have also attended OEA and NEOEA leadership workshops, including training in collective bargaining.

Currently, I serve YSU-ACE as 2nd Vice President, as a member of both the Grievance Committee and the 2011 Negotiations team, and as one of your representatives to OEA, HEAC and NEOEA. I also chair the YSU-ACE Constitution and Bylaws committee.

We’ve been through a lot in the last decade, but even though the winds from Columbus blow against us, we continue to stand strong. My biggest concern for the coming year is contract negotiations. Many of the same issues that the university administration and YSU-ACE have wrestled with in 2005, 2008 and 2011 will, I believe, continue to hold center stage: 1) the scope of our unit; 2) out-sourcing; 3) layoff and mandatory furlough procedures; 4) healthcare cost-sharing, and 5) healthcare benefits . . . not to mention parking. While these issues may seem daunting, I firmly believe that this membership will be able to stand strong again for what it believes is fair and right for themselves, for the university and for the community. As John F. Kennedy said in his inaugural address, “Let us never negotiate out of fear, but let us never fear to negotiate.”
