The Youngstown State University Association of Classified Employees has awarded $800 in scholarships to three YSU Students; $400 to Molly Auchter of Hubbard, Ohio majoring in Computer Forensics and $200 each to Celeste Cavanaugh of Struthers, Ohio majoring in Nursing and Kyle Marshall of Canfield, Ohio majoring in Nursing.

All of these great students were nominated by YSU Association of Classified Employees that work at the University.

An award dinner was held at Collections Cafe at the Butler Institute of American Art this past June. The students were in attendance and accompanied by their parents and surrounded by numerous members of the YSU-ACE executive committee, the selection committee, the social committee and those who recommended them.

Applicants must have completed at least 30 semester hours at YSU and have documented financial need. They must submit an essay discussing the value of his/her employment at YSU, their community service, and two recommendation letters from YSU-ACE members.

“The students are our number one priority,” said Connie Frisby, administrative assistant in the Office of Computer Science & Information Systems and YSU-ACE president. “Many past and present YSU-ACE employees have made and continue to make contributions into this scholarship through the YSU Foundation to be able to help those hard working students a bit more. It was an honor to share this event with the recipients and their families.”

For more information on the scholarship, contact Anthony Spano at 330-941-2669 or avspano@ysu.edu. Donations to the scholarship can be sent to the ACE Scholarship Fund at the YSU Foundation.

Youngstown State University Association of Classified Employees will be awarding nearly $400 in Gift Cards to two different organizations in the City of Youngstown on Tuesday, December 22 at 11am at the Rescue Mission of the Mahoning Valley, 962 Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, Youngstown, OH 44501. The two non-profit organizations will be the Open Arms Community Outreach, Inc. and the Rescue Mission of the Mahoning Valley.  Both are great organizations that serve those in the community who have fallen on hard times, and need of a little extra help with the basic necessities of life, food, clothing, a hot meal, etc. These organizations serve our community well and are great organizations to help the Community. Both organizations will have members in attendance for the presentations. Additionally, the Association contributed 4 gift cards to the New Springfield Fire Department’s Secret Santa program, where they identify 4 local families in need and help provide a Christmas for them.

As an organization, we appreciate and acknowledge the importance of giving back to our community in every way possible. “We are here to serve the less fortunate and this is a great way to give back to the campus community”, said Connie Frisby, Administrative Assistant in the Office of Computer Science & Information and YSU-ACE president.

Message from Connie

Message to YSU-ACE members:

Yesterday, I addressed our membership with information regarding layoffs as announced by the administration. A copy of the questions and answers discussed at the meeting will be available to the membership next week by contacting our secretary, Melanie Leonard, at ext. 2979.

During the meeting, I stated that the four unions were issuing a joint press release. A copy of that release is shown below on this website.

As stated in the press release, the unions asked to form a joint task force to “study the university’s fiscal condition and explore creative alternatives to avert the layoffs . . .”. In that regard, a Joint Task Force Survey has been created for our members to submit their thoughts and suggestions to aid the Task Force in exploring these alternatives. The survey is available at http://freeonlinesurveys.com/s.asp?sid=9sbf0wzhxaymqdd340172

Also, we are asking for volunteers to be building representatives to aid us in getting information out to our membership. If you would like to volunteer, please contact Tony Spano at avspano@gmail.com or Connie Frisby at connie_frisby@yahoo.com.

If you have not yet submitted an alternate email address, please contact Melanie Leonard at ext. 2979 (or email to mlleonard@ysu.edu) as soon as possible so that you may be added to the list.

Thank you,

Connie Frisby, President, YSU-ACE
